The AVRC in Danville Virginia and its senior collaboration partner, CyberMetrix in Columbus, Indiana have completed the construction of an Electric Vehicle (EV) research platform, supported by funding from the Department of Energy. The rolling laboratory for rapid application testing (codenamed LabRAT) will be utilized for analysis and testing of multiple combinations of electric vehicle (EV) drive train systems and components, including energy storage systems. The platform will be used to advance the EV industry by substantially reducing cost and time to develop and test new EV drive-train and energy storage system designs; constructed to allow for rapid installation and replacement of vehicle battery packs, drive motors, and motor control units. AVRC will be displaying at the 2nd annual Governor’s Conference on Energy, at the Richmond Convention Center on October 17th to the 19th. This conference brings together business leaders, researchers, and politicians from across Virginia and the surrounding states, to talk about the future of energy in our country. AVRC will be displaying at the Plug-In 2011 annual conference in booth 122 at the Raleigh Convention Center from July 18 through July 20. The Plug-In 2011 Conference and Exposition will feature new technologies and panels discussing the current state of electric vehicles and infrastructure. On January 18, the AVRC entertained a videographer from UNC-TV. He received a complete tour of the facility and interviewed our senior scientist, Dr. Yimin Gao, and our Executive Director, Dick Dell. Here’s the video that aired on UNC-TV on January 24th:
