Wise County, VA. - AVRC has been awarded the contract to manage the Appalachia America Energy Research Center located in Wise County, Virginia which will have a planned research focus of sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources.

The Advanced Vehicle Research Center has been contracted by NAFTC to train first responders and EMT on alternative drivetrains and fuels.

-AVRC Installs First Coloumb PHEV Charging Stations in Virginia

ADVANCED VEHICLE RESEARCH CENTER installed the first Coloumb charging stations in Virginia at its new Danville Headquarters. These charging stations are available to the public. -AVRC GRAND OPENING

ADVANCED VEHICLE RESEARCH CENTER had its grand opening for the new Headquarters in Danville, Virginia on August 24th, 2009.

The AVRC facility is a new 16,000 square foot headquarters that includes a research and design center in the Cyber Park. Additionally, the company is developing a closed loop natural terrain track on a 266-acre site near the Danville Regional Airport. The track will be used to test manned and unmanned military vehicles and off-road vehicles.

AVRC has a commercial initiative to convert hybrid Toyota Priuses to Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles. (PHEVs) and other initiatives include natural gas conversion and Hydrogen mobile generation. AVRC has done more PHEV conversions than any other company on the East Coast for clients including Progress Energy, Duke Energy, City of Raleigh, and other clients from New York to Florida.

Perriello commented that it is the smaller, innovative manufacturers that will turn this country around. - AVRC is to present new options at Electrifying Transportation Conference

Wise, Virginia - The Southwestern Virginia Technology Council will be hosting the 2009 Virginia Energy Summit at the University of Virginia College at Wise. The AVRC'S Executive Director, Dick Dell, along with AVRC's Program Manager, Richard Dell, are scheduled to cover the topics of Electric Car Fleets and IEC Fusion, respectively. The tour started on April 15th at NCSU's McKimmon's Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, traveled through Greensboro and ended in Charlotte at UNC Charlotte. - The AVRC annouces partnership with NovaCharge

- AVRC installs First Electric Cooperative's first Hymotion system

Jackson, Arkansas - First Electric Cooperative recently purchased and modified a Toyota Prius Hybrid, converting it to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). It will be used as a teaching and demonstration tool in conjunction with other educational programs currently in place at First Electric. The conversion from a standard Toyota Prius Hybrid to a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle was completed by certified technicians from the Advanced Vehicle Research Center.

- AVRC Executive Director to give a presentation to the 2009 Aerospace Workforce Development Summit in DC.

Washington, DC ? The Executive Director of the AVRC, Dick Dell, will be giving a presentation to the 2009 Aerospace Workforce Development Summit in DC on January 15th. Mr. Dell will be speaking on day one of the conference. More information on this summit is available at this link or in the online brochure. Mr. Dell authored North Carolina's Strategic Plan for Aerospace Workforce Development which was published in January 2008. Additional Aerospace news to report is that Team Stellar, an entry into the Google Lunar X Challenge that AVRC helped to create and continues to support, has been invited to participate in the Aerospace Business Roundtable as part of the Virginia Aerospace Days - Feb. 4 and 5 - at the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond, Virginia. More on that as it develops.

- AVRC Ground Breaking in Danville Virginia a huge success.

Danville, VA ? AVRC is proud to join the Southside Virginia community of Danville and Pittsylvania County. We broke ground for our new Virginia facility on November 24th, 2008. You can see the event at this link. The AVRC construction will be a 16,000 square foot headquarters to include a research and design center in the Cyber Park on a 13.8 acre site on Stinson Drive. Additionally, the company will construct a closed loop natural terrain track on a 63-acre site near the Danville Regional Airport. The track will be used to test manned and unmanned military vehicles and off-road vehicles. Construction is expected to be complete in the spring of 2009. - Team Stellar Public Forum Meeting was a huge success

Raleigh, NC ? AVRC is a senior partner in Team Stellar, an official entry into the Google Lunar X Challenge. Team Stellar presented a Public Forum and Volunteer Organizational meeting on NCSU campus Tuesday evening. One hundred volunteers attended, and half of them signed up to support the Team Stellar mission. The quality of these volunteers was outstanding, most of them demonstrating a sophisticated level of technological skills and technical background in the aerospace sector. - Why isn't AVRC in Northampton County?

Raleigh, NC ? Dick Dell, Executive Director of AVRC issued a statement today, saying "Due to the recent WRAL article we have gotten many questions about why we are not in Northampton County. Let us assure you that it was not our choice. We did everything we could to establish our business in Northampton County, but political self-interests won out, and we were forced out of the project. We anticipate posting to this website a FAQ with more information on this in the next couple days."

- AVRC to teach Alternative Fuels course at Nash Community College.

- AVRC is now an approved and certified A123/Hymotion installer.

Raleigh, NC ? AVRC is now approved as a certified A123/Hymotion Installer. AVRC has responsibility for fleet sales and installation for utility companies and other fleet operators. To date, AVRC has converted nine Prius vehicles to plug-in hybrid electric. Installation of the A123 conversion includes the addition of a 5kW Lithium Ion battery pack and onboard charging system. It can extend the mileage of a stock Toyota Prius from 48 MPG to 96 MPG (mileage will vary based on driving conditions). Conversions already completed include Progress Energy North Carolina, Progress Energy Florida, City of Raleigh, South Carolina Electric and Gas, Sumter electric cooperative, Duke Energy, Four County EMC, and Advanced Energy Corporation.

- AVRC Program Manager asked to make a presentation at the IREC National Conference in New York.

Troy, NY ? The Interstate Renewable Energy Council held the second national conference for educators and instructors for providing training in the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries. The conference took place at Hudson Valley Community College near Albany, New York. Two days of conference sessions offered practices and teaching models for a wide variety of renewable energy and energy efficiency jobs. AVRC was asked to make a presentation on developing Corporate Mentorship Networks and this presentation is online here.

- AVRC Program Manager selected to judge at Virginia First Robotics competition.

Richmond, VA ? The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a unique varsity sport designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be. - Automotive Industry Forum in North Carolina.

Raleigh, NC ? A half-day Automotive Industry Forum, sponsored by the North Carolina State University Industrial Extension Service, in conjunction with Underwriters Laboratories, covered topics relevant to suppliers (and those that wish to be) to the automotive industry. An informative round table discussion included such topics as common pitfalls on the Path to TS 16949 Registration, the impact of technology on Automotive Design, the Global Automotive Market - "How Did We Get Here...and Where Are We Going?", and the challenges associated with outsourcing - an OEM's perspective.

On February 27th, the AVRC hosted Dr. George Miley to present at a joint seminar of the NCSU Nuclear Engineering Department and the NCSU Physics Department titled "Inertial Electrostatic Confinement (IEC) Fusion: Physics and Applications". - AVRC expands into Danville, Virginia

Danville, VA ? The City of Danville and Pittsylvania County announced today that the Advanced Vehicle Research Center (AVRC) will expand to the Cyber Park near the Danville Regional Airport. The company plans to invest $3.5m and employ 30 full-time workers. The company will do research on off-road and alternative fuel vehicles. - AVRC Publishes two educational documents regarding Hydrogen.

The Advanced Vehicle Research Center is pleased to offer at this time two educational documents we believe both support the Department of Energy Hydrogen initiatives.

The first segment of the Engage and Excite Distance Learning Lab series is available here with The Hydrogen Experience. This document was developed with the NC Solar Center and funded by a Department of Labor, Employment and Training Agency grant.

A Design and Build document, funded by the Department of Energy, and giving precise technical information, guidance, resources and diagrams for learning how to build a Mobile Hydrogen Generation and Refueling station, can be found here at Mobile Hydrogen Generation & Storage Station.

- 'AVRC begins new expansion.'

AVRC, the Advanced Vehicle Research Center, announced today that the company will lease 5,000 s.f. of office space in the town of Nashville, Nash County, North Carolina.

June-July, 2007

- 'It's a plug-in world.'

Staff from the AVRC has just completed the first plug-in hybrid conversions in North Carolina. Along with an engineer from Hymotion, a Canadian company that manufactures a plug-in hybrid conversion kit, we have successfully upgraded three Toyota Priuses to have plug-in recharging capability.

The work was done in cooperation with the Advanced Energy Corporation of Raleigh and was completed at the Global TransPark in Kinston, at a secure building, as a guest of the GTP.

The upgraded Priuses will be able to get more than 100 MPG under normal city driving conditions using the lithium ion battery packs as their primary power source for the first 30-35 miles of driving.
