AVRC's Hybrid Electric Assist Technology (H.E.A.T.) includes several technologies for converting any rear wheeldrive
automatic transmission non-hybrid vehicle to a hybrid. One type
of conversion adds an in-line electric motor, battery storage, and motor control unit for max efficiency – an electric assist system (EAS) from NetGain Motors, Inc. and a second conversion type includes the "Zed drive" an equally simple conversion for a live rear axle. Zed uses an additional pinion gear assembly in a custom made housing to attach the electric motor. This housing replaces the rear cover plate on the existing rear axle. Ultracapacitors/batteries are fitted below floor of the tray bed or pickup body. The system can be recharged via the grid and regenerative breaking. The following diagram shows the changes to the chassis and/or drive train of an F-150.
